Nos Enquêtes: Découvertes du Monde/Inquiry Based Learning: World Discoveries

As part of our inquiry based learning in Social Studies, the Grade 2 students have been learning about the different cultures at St. Rita School.

A couple of weeks ago, some students were chosen to do a mini presentation in one of the 14 classes at our school and as a Grade, we performed a survey of the different countries from which our students' families originated from.

During the next process of our inquiry, the students have begun used the IPADS to locate some of these countries on "Google Maps" and identifying the continent from which they are found.

This was a very exciting and enjoyable learning experience for our class. Here are some pictures of our class hard at work.

Brandon and Jonathan are exploring the continent of Europe.
Voici L'Europe!

Where is the Phillippinnes? In Asia...We have found Asia!
Où est le Phillippinnes? En Asie ... Nous avons trouvé l'Asie!

Oh look at that! I found a boot!
Oh regardez ça! J'ai trouvé une botte!

Catherine,  Ava , Aaron and Yeabsra are exploring the world.
Ils explorent le monde.

Lebanon, Canada, Spain...so many places to visit so little time!
Liban, Canada, Espangne... tellement d'endroits à visiter et si peu de temps!

Three cheers for our future world travelers!!

Inquiry Based Learning at St. Rita

At St. Rita, we will be starting a new approach to learning Social Studies.  Inquiry based learning is a method whereby the students ask the questions they wish to find more about on the topic of interest.  As a class, we then research and share our findings.

Part of our Social Studies curriculum involves identifying and making connections with our countries of origin as well as the diverse cultures around the world.

Our class has begun a special reading to prepare for a presentation that will take place in all of our classes here at St Rita.  Seven lucky students from each Grade 2 class will be chosen to deliver this mini presentation to one class in the school with the efforts of finding out which cultures exist here at St.Rita.  Please assist your child in rehearsing this reading which is available in their french duotangs.

More to come on our inquiries...

La chanson de l'automne

This is our first recorded song we have learned as a class.  Can you follow the words with our actions? Enjoy our lovely voices!

Les Activités de l'Automne: Autumn Activities

Our learning journey takes place in many forms.  During the month of October, the students have completed a variety of activities on the theme of  Autumn and Thanksgiving, "L'action de Grâces".  Here are a few examples of our work.
